Jack and the beanstalk or Jack the stalker

My seven year old  read JACK AND THE BEAN STALK today.

As she read the last lines "Now Jack and his mother were no longer poor, and they lived happily ever after" she seemed disgusted. So she looked at me,raised her brow and said "Ha!....were no longer poor after stealing, whats so heroic about it!!!!".

Chashme bad door

A friend of mine removed all her pictures from her facebook account....why??..."yar nazar  lag jaati hai ,infact lag gayee,I got seriously ill after uploading my wedding pictures"she explained.
During your life you would have come across this phrase many a times especially if your origin is the subcontinent. If you are beautiful (in the eyes of the beholder),successfull, have a great job, have any thing others envy, you are likely to be a victim of an evil eye.The evil eye is a look that is believed by many cultures to be able to cause injury or bad luck for the person at whom it is directed for reasons of envy or dislike. The term also refers to the power attributed to certain persons of inflicting injury or bad luck by such an envious or ill-wishing look. The evil eye or Nazar can be done out of love and unintentionally so it does not always have "evil" intentions attached to it..So how do you ward it off...just say chashme buddoor,or may be give some alms,or feed an eagle with some meat etc.To many,it has no significance what so ever."Celebrities ko nazar kion nahi lagti?Chand, sitaaroon ko kion nai lagti?.There are as many arguments not to believe in it,as there are to believe. But there are various cultures that do believe in it.
. The idea appears several times in translations (Tirgumim) of the Old Testament. It was a widely extended belief among many Mediterranean tribes and cultures: It started in Classical Greece and later passed to ancient Rome..The evil eye is known as ayin harsha in Arabic, ayin horeh in Hebrew, droch shuil in Scotland, mauvais oeil in France, bösen blick in Germany, mal occhio in Italy, mal ojo or el ojo in Spain and was known as oculus malus among the classical Romans. In Dari and Pashto it is called Nazar. The idea expressed by the term causes many cultures to pursue protective measures against it.

ISLAM ON AL-AYN (EVIL EYE) According to Islamic sources the effect of an evil eye exists. Imam al-Bukhari reported on the authority of Abu Hurayrah that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "The effect of an evil eye is a fact." However, the evil eye can never harm unless Allah wills so. Hence, it shouldn't be a cause of fear or terror to anyone. Thus in Islam when there is praise of something or someone "MashAllah" or what Allah wishes is always repeated after it for good omen i.e. "she is so beautiful, MashAllah".
Narrated 'Aisha: The Prophet ordered me or somebody else to do Ruqya (if there was danger) from an evil eye. (Bukhari)
Narrated Um Salama: That the Prophet saw in her house a girl whose face had a black spot. He said. "She is under the effect of an evil eye; so treat her with a Ruqya." (Bukhari)
Allah Almighty gave the humanity two suras to ward off all sorts of evil,sura-al -falak, and sura-an-naas.
Surah Al Falaq (Pickthall Translation)
Say: I seek refuge in the Lord of the Daybreak
From the evil of that which He created;
From the evil of the darkness when it is intense,
And from the evil of malignant witchcraft,
And from the evil of the envier when he envieth.

Surah An-Naas (Pickthall Translation)
Say: I seek refuge in the Lord of mankind,
The King of mankind,
The God of mankind,
From the evil of the sneaking whisperer,
Who whispereth in the hearts of mankind,
Of the jinn and of mankind.

The belief in the evil eye has become almost universal in its appeal and allure. But one should always remember that without Allah's will nothing can happen. There is a famous saying "prevention is better than cure".Always ask Allah to protect you from all sorts of evil.Chashme bad door - may the evil eye be far away from you.

Mental strength

Most of us think we are courageous, but courage is a relative term. You never know how strong you are...until being strong is the only choice you have. Its more about counting blessings at hand.Sharing some horrific but true stories that makes one wonder "what is the source of strength"?.
  • A 13 year old girl was forcibly married, delivered a baby before she turned 14.she bore the labour pains for 36 hours and her cruel inlaws took her to hospital after she started bleeding.Later she was ousted from the house, came back to her mother, only to be scolded daily.Imagine the trauma at such young age.She is still alive ,has three kids and somewhat happy. She works as a domestic maid now.
  • An elderly women in Nowshera finds out that her four sons and husband who went for friday prayers at the nearby mosque would never return. They became the victims of suicide attack that unfortunate day.
  • A burnt victim outside a plastic surgeon's room is gazing at people with the only eye he's left with.He is hopeful that he would be better if not perfectly alright.
  • A young Handicap earns his living through sewing, working with his feet near islamabad. He has no arms..
Does strength come from what one goes through?or is it inherently there?.In situations like these, the only option is to stay strong and to count on what's left behind.
People are living in conditions ,we might not even imagine exist.Time and again Allah asks us to thank his blessings. "Fabee'ayee aalaa'ee rabbiquma tukazeeban"(Then which of the favours Of your Lord will ye deny).
Try to be thankful and stay strong!

SLOW DOWN A BIT!

To some its thrill,to others its the need of the hour...SPEED...the RUSH ....To get things done in time...life seems too fast to catch up.A 27 year old young man lost his life when his car turtled on the road due to over speeding. His three year old daughter saw her father dying ogf internal bleeding, not knowing that this incident would turn her life upside down.Witnesses say the dying father helplessly watched her daughter...may be he was thinking ..what went wrong?.May his soul rest in peace...
It may make a difference of a few minutes to reach your destination, if the driving speed is well within the range.
Better late than never...
